The CDC UpDraft Blacklight (UV) Trap Model 1312 was developed
from a design of the U.S. Centers for Disease Control. In field
tests in Central America it caught several times more Anopheline
mosquitoes than did standard CDC Miniature or New
Jersey light
traps.
The CDC UpDraft Blacklight (UV) Trap
Model 1312 was developed from a design
of the U.S. Centers for Disease Control. The trap includes
a blacklight tube support and ballast which runs at 12 volts.
In field tests in Central America it caught several times
more Anopheline mosquitoes than did standard CDC
Miniature or New
Jersey light traps.
The light on this trap can be controlled with the optionally
available PhotoSwitch (LCS-2).
When configured with a switch, it is possible
to collect for 2 or 3 nights with only one trip to the
trap.
BlackLight (UV)
The utility of blacklight (UV) in attracting
a greater number and diversity of mosquito species, Culicoides,
and Phlebotomines is well known. Our UV traps employ
a 4 Watt blue-blacklight tube and a very efficient transistorized
inverter-ballast to provide radiation in the near-UV range
(ca. 320-420 nm).
The special inverter ballast is able to start the 4-Wt blue blacklight
tube at battery voltages a low as 9.5 VDC.
The blacklight system is identical to
the one used in the CDC Fay-Prince Model
812 and Downdraft
Model 912 Blacklight (UV) Traps.

Requirements
The trap draw is 0.5 Amps/hour at 12 volts.
