Mosquito Breeder (Model 330)
The Mosquito Breeder (Model 330) is a mosquito emergence set of jars used in laboratory and research settings to rear mosquitoes from aquatic stages (larvae/pupae) to adults. It is designed to allow mosquitoes to mature safely and then emerge into a separate compartment.
Highlights
- The breeder consists of two plastic 2-liter jars that screw together. Between the two bottles is an inverted plastic cone that permits the movement of newly emerged adult mosquitoes from the lower aquatic chamber into the upper resting chamber.
- The bottom section is filled with water and larvae/pupae.
- The upper section gives newly emerged adults space to fly and rest. A cotton ball with a sugar solution can be placed on the upper chamber’s stainless steel screen respiration port.
